The Creek Lifestyle team love to offer their customers stylish quality clothing and unique gifts that are inspired by the rhythm of nature.
Alongside their own bespoke range of goods it’s important to the team to give local crafts people an opportunity to showcase their products too.
Candle maker, Marie, is one such artisan…
“I longed to start my own business and after exploring different possibilities my love of candles seemed to be the perfect answer.
“I'd actually first got into candle making after having Covid. I started experimenting and asking my neighbours to try them out for me. The more I experimented, the more fascinated I became with the process and the endless possibilities of scents and designs. Eventually, what began as a simple study turned into a passion and a small business.
“Making a soy candle involves several meticulous steps. First, I measure and melt the soy wax to the correct temperature. While the wax melts, I prepare the containers by securing the wicks. Once the wax reaches the right temperature, I add fragrance oil and stir very carefully for two minutes. After carefully pouring the mixture into the prepared containers, the candles then need to cure for at least a fortnight to ensure a proper scent throw. After curing, I trim the wicks and test burn each candle batch to guarantee it burns evenly and releases the desired fragrance.
“I believe in living with what I create, so there's always at least one candle burning at home. I find that having a candle lit adds a sense of calm and warmth to any room. Plus, it's a great way to test new scents and ensure they perform well in a real home environment.
Marie started her candle making business in North Norfolk and is now based in the city of Norwich which she finds an inspiring place to live and work.
“For a first-time visitor to Norfolk, I would highly recommend visiting Norwich. It has a rich history, beautiful architecture such as Norwich Cathedral, an energetic cultural scene and the bustling Norwich Market.
“The whole of Norfolk has a vibrant community of craftspeople. We have artisans creating everything from pottery to bespoke furniture. There's a real sense of togetherness among us, and we often collaborate and support each other. It's a fantastic environment for anyone interested in handmade and bespoke items.
“Support from local businesses like Creek Lifestyle is crucial. They provide a platform for local artisans like myself, to showcase our work and reach a broader audience.
Close to the Creek boutique Marie loves spending time at the Blakeney National Nature Reserve. “It's a fantastic place for a peaceful walk and to enjoy the stunning coastal scenery. Another favourite spot is Holkham Beach, with its expansive sands, dunes and pine forest. Both places offer a perfect escape and a chance to recharge. And of course cruising out on the Broads.
“The best reason to visit Blakeney is its natural beauty and quaint village charm. It's great for adults and children alike, with local seal boat trips and wonderful walks out on the tidal marshes. The village itself is lovely to wander around, with its flint cottages, artisan shops such as the Creek boutique and cosy pubs.”
